THE CHALLENGE

IKEA Retail (Ingka Group) wanted to turn rapid advances in AI into practical progress against its climate and nature goals, across products, buildings, supply chains, and responsible technology and align sustainability and digital leaders on where to focus first.

The Approach

Nyamira Labs facilitated an AI Sustainability Lab with senior participants from sustainability and digital. The session gave teams a structured way to explore proven AI applications across Climate, Nature and Responsible AI, and to translate “AI possibilities” into clear, shared priorities.

the Solution

We identified and prioritised a pipeline of potential AI opportunities across climate, nature and responsible digital, agreed initial owners, and drafted an early action plan to guide Ingka’s AI-for-sustainability agenda.

The group converged on priority themes including product-level carbon intelligence, building energy optimisation, responsible digital infrastructure, and AI-enabled customer engagement and built a shared view of what it would take to move from ideas to tested pilots.

Just as importantly, the Lab created real cross-functional momentum; participants highlighted the value of bringing “disparate parts of the company” together and described the collaboration as forming “superteams.”

THE CHALLENGE

Flutter Entertainment, the world’s leading sports betting and iGaming operator, set out to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could support delivery of its Positive Impact Plan.

With commitments spanning player protection, environmental impact, and wider social responsibility, the sustainability team needed to navigate a fast-moving AI landscape and focus on practical, relevant applications. The priority was to identify use cases that could strengthen customer protection, improve efficiency, and support long-term business priorities—without getting sidetracked by less mature or speculative ideas.

The Approach

Nyamira Labs facilitated a one-day, in-person AI Sustainability Lab, bringing together 15 senior leaders from Sustainability, AI & Automation, Product, and Safer Gambling at Flutter.

Use Case Exploration: Participants reviewed over 100 real-world AI applications from Nyamira’s living library.

Expert Perspectives: Three external contributors shared practical insights on how AI is being applied today.

Structured Ideation: A guided process helped translate ideas into action, generating 78+ opportunities which were refined into five priority areas, covering both quick wins and longer-term initiatives.

the Solution

The Lab helped translate a broad set of possibilities into a more focused and actionable set of priorities. Five project themes were identified, each with clear next steps to move towards testing and implementation.

The session also helped strengthen alignment between sustainability and technology teams, creating a clearer shared understanding of where AI could add value. Participants valued the balance between exploring a wide range of ideas and landing on practical next steps.

“The Lab was a useful way to step back and look at how AI could be applied in a practical way within our sustainability work. It brought together a good mix of perspectives and examples, and the facilitation helped keep the discussion focused and inclusive. It’s given us a clearer view of where to prioritise and where AI could support our plans going forward.”
